Exclusive Interview with 2Steel Girls

There’s so many females making their way through the country music industry right now, and there is two in particular that has been dominating the scene! Those two females would be a special duo, entitled, 2Steel Girls.

The women that make up the 2Steel Girls, Allison and Krystal Steel, recently found time to chat about being on The Voice on Team Blake, what it is like working with family, being real and true to themselves, and new music being released soon!

Emily Ann Wells: You both grew up in two generations. Who are some of your favorite musical influences?
Krystal Steel: I love artists who can make you feel what they are singing about. One of my favorite singers has always been Etta James. I love so many different styles of music and I’m inspired by many artists in different ways. Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, Elton John, Prince, Miranda Lambert, Whitney Houston, Kacey Musgraves, Allen Stone, Creedence Clearwater Revival, KISS, The Mamas & the Papas, Gavin Degraw, Foo Fighters. I could go on and on.
Allison Steel: Steven Tyler is my favorite performer of all time. My musical influences are very eclectic though just like our new music. I listened to Elvis a lot when I was a kid because my mom was such a fan of his. Though he was not living, I too became a big fan. Prince, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, and Michael Jackson were all huge influences musically as well.

EAW: How long have y’all been a mother-daughter duo, and what is it like working with each other? What are the pros and cons?
2Steel Girls: We’ve been a duo for 6 years officially. But, in reality we’ve been a duo since the day Krystal was born. Ha! It’s great working with each other some days. And then there are days where we just want to get away from each other before someone gets hurt! Just kidding. But, don’t think we haven’t thought about smacking the heck out of each other. We’re together almost every single day. Some days are really rough. But, we love it and wouldn’t have our lives go any other way.

EAW: You were on The Voice on Team Blake. What was it like working with him? What was the best piece of advice he gave you?
2Steel Girls: Blake is really a great guy. He’s very kind, and from what we experienced, he’s very down to earth. Blake is also very supportive of other artists. The best advice he ever gave us was to be ourselves – and we are doing just that! We may look and sound different than other people, but we’re embracing it. It’s been so exciting to just being real.

EAW: If there is one major thing you want to accomplish in your career, what would it be?
2Steel Girls: We have so many huge dreams for our career that it’s hard to narrow it down to just one. But, when we think about it, the most important thing to us is that we leave a legacy. That our lives and time on this earth made a positive difference and that we were positive role models.

EAW: The latest two singles you released, Queen Bee, and In My Head are very good and different songs. What was it like making the songs?
2Steel Girls: It was an incredible experience. This is the 1st time we’ve ever went into the studio not leaning solely on our band or producer. We went in with ideas and got very creative. Our producer, Mike Kyle is incredibly fun to work with. He to is very creative. Each song on our upcoming album, June 15th will have its own uniqueness and we’re very excited to share it all with you!

EAW: What can fans expect from new music and when it’s coming in the future?
2Steel Girls: They can expect something very different. We are very passionate about singing and performing. We poured our passion and souls into every song. The album is called, “The Real Thing” and will be released on June 15th.
Listening to the album from song 1 to song 11 will be a real journey. It’s an experience, not just a bunch of random songs. We thought about every aspect of this album, and there will be a lot of surprises and a whole lot of fun. We are excited for you to experience “The Real Thing”!

Everyone will be sure to love this new duo, from their meaningful songs, to their pure talent and sass! There’s nothing not to like about 2Steel Girls. They have a special uniqueness to them that you won’t find anywhere else. This is just the beginning for the 2Steel Girls in their music career and there’s so much more to come from them in the future! A special thank you to the 2Steel Girls for taking the time out for this interview!
