A upcoming country music artist, Allie Colleen has been making her path in the country music scene in Nashville, Tennessee.
The singer songwriter recently got to chat with me about a few things including some of her favorite musical influences, along with what it was like growing up in country music and following in her father’s, Garth Brooks’ footsteps in creating music. Most importantly, Colleen talked about her latest single, Ain’t The Only Hell (My Momma Raised) and some of her biggest goals.
Emily Ann Wells: Who are some of your musical influences?
Allie Colleen: Jo Dee Messina, Ashley McBryde, Cody Johnson, Runaway June.
EAW: If you could only listen to three artists forever, who would they be and why?
AC: Ashley McBryde because she is just the greatest.
Hunter Girl is a friend of mine in town and one of the greatest female vocalist in my opinion.
Cody Johnson, cause he’s like butter — good with anything.
EAW: What is the best piece of advice you have gotten about being/pursing a career in the music industry?
AC: “Put you’re head down and run” my parents taught me to work and to work hard, and for that I will always be grateful.
EAW: You recently released your single, Ain’t The Only Hell My Momma Raised. What was it like writing and recording that song?
AC: It was very personal, I have two amazing, hell raising mommas. I owe a lot to them. I also am a hell raising woman myself because they taught me to be. I got to sit down with my mom and girl talk about all the rowdy stuff she used to do. It was a really fun conversation but also, the chorus is all about how I can’t learn from something I have never tried and I am going to try life time and time again regardless of the outcome, just like momma.
EAW: Do you like being a singer or songwriter more and why?
AC: The worlds could not be more apart. I can’t compare the two, my heart is in both. I could not live without either.
EAW: What is something you would like to accomplish in your music career?
AC: I want to find myself and fall in love with who I find. Not lose myself and avoid mirrors. I want all women to understand they accomplish whatever they want, regardless of what they were born into— whether it be “good or bad”.
