Exclusive Interview with Charly Reynolds

A new upcoming country music singer songwriter, Charly Reynolds, who is originally from Orlando, Florida, but now a Tennessee native, is excited to start making her way in the country music scene in music city.

The artist recently had time to chat with me about a few things including the huge change she just made by chasing her dreams and making the big move to Nashville to pursue them. She also mentioned who some of her musical influences are, her latest single she just released Shelby’s Song, and how important it is to her that she wants to connect with her fans.

Emily Ann Wells: Who are some artists that influence you?
Charly Reynolds: Shania Twain is someone who is a huge influence to me because she has been through so many obstacles in her life and continues to use her life experiences to create songs that people can connect to. I also am a huge fan of Carrie Underwood. She has come so far since she won American Idol while keeping her faith strong and still rocking the country music world! I think she is a big inspiration to many.

EAW: If you could tell people to listen to one song to describe your sound, what would it be and why?
CR: I would ask them to listen to Wonderland. That song is one of my favorites that I have released because it tells a great story and I feel like that song shows my voice well. The song is very pop/country and I really love it! I think my sound is country, soulful and heartfelt.

EAW: You recently moved to Nashville from Orlando, Florida. What are some things you’ve had to get used to by living in Nashville?
CR: Definitely the cold weather! I have realized living through this winter that I was not made for this cold of weather. If it is below 50 degrees I am freezing!

The biggest thing for me is not having my entire family here with me. That has been the hardest thing for me so far, I miss my family more than I could’ve imagined before I moved. But, thankfully my brother, Kyle, lives here so I always have him and I am so thankful for that!

EAW: What is something that your fans would be surprised to know about you?
CR: I am obsessed with interior design! I love looking at empty houses because I can always picture in my mind exactly how I would decorate it and how it should be set up. I have to say, besides singing, interior design and decorating is one of my favorite things to do.

EAW: You just released your single Shelby’s Song, that you co-wrote. What made you want to write that song and release it?
CR: Well, I am a child of divorce and there aren’t a lot of songs about that topic. I co-wrote it with Toby Waters, who happens to be my middle school PE coach, which is crazy, and Tavie Basarich, owner of the Winter Park Music Academy. We decided to write the song from a mother’s point of view, because of course, divorce is hard on the children, but I can’t imagine going through it as a parent. I used some of my experience having divorced parents from when I was young in the song, and I am blessed to have the best parents in the world. The song is not telling my story, but it was written on some families I know personally, that have shared their stories with me. I wanted a ballad that would cause a lot of emotions and I think the song sure does that!

EAW: What’s your favorite memory you’ve had in your career/music journey so far?
CR: My favorite memory so far was my last release concert. It was held at the Walt Disney Amphitheater in Orlando, FL. Of course I LOVED performing my songs and singing my heart out for an hour and a half, but the best part was the meet and greets after the show. I got to talk with each and every individual who came out to support me and get a picture with them. Those people may never know the impact they made on me coming and supporting me but it is the best feeling in the entire world. I can’t wait to do it again soon!

EAW: If you could do a collaboration with another artist, who would it be and why?
CR: I can only narrow it down to two artist because there are so many! Shania Twain, because she is my idol and Blake Shelton because he has always been my favorite male country artist!

EAW: What are some goals you want to accomplish in 2019?
CR: My hope for 2019, is to be always be available for the opportunities that God places for me. I really want people to hear and connect with my music, and for my listeners to be as excited as I am for new releases and videos. I have scheduled some more writers rounds in Nashville, which I love doing so I am excited for those as well. I pray that this will be the year I will have the opportunity to sing on the Opry stage, where so many legends have stood, that has been on my bucket list for so long. I am so ready for whatever God has in store for 2019, so let’s do this!
