There’s a great upcoming country music duo, 3 and Twenty, and they are making their way through the country music scene! The duo was created by band members, Butch Gibson and Adrian Lee, who were both born and raised in South Carolina!
The guys from 3 and Twenty recently had time to chat with me about several things including some of their musical influences and how they became interested in music. Along with that, they talked about releasing their latest single, Wasted On You on Silverado Records’ album, and things they want to do in 2020 including releasing new music!
Emily Ann Wells: Where are you originally from?
Adrian Lee: Greenville, SC.
Butch Gibson: Right here in Easley, SC…Born and Bred!!!
EAW: Who are some of your musical influences?
Adrian: I grew up on everything from 90s Country and HipHop to old Southern Rock and Outlaw Country. I’m originally a drummer as well and I loved some of the hard rock and metal bands like Metallica, Korn, and Slipknot. Big personal influences are everything from Tupac, Bone Thugz, and Eazy E to Waylon, Hank, and even Stevie Wonder!!! I just really love music. All kinds. If it’s a good song it’s a good song, regardless of the genre.
Butch: I agree! I started out in gospel and R&B music. My first love growing up was the Motown acts my parents listened to. Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, The Temptations and these lead me to Boyz II Men, Jodeci, and Jagged Edge. Right during this time I started singing. As I grew up and developed my voice I branched out into the country side as well as pop. I was listening to everything from NSYNC and 98 Degrees to Alabama, Diamond Rio, Restless Heart and Rascal Flatts! Still today I mix in everything! I will have playlists with Luke Combs, Post Malone, Ashley McBryde, and Ed Sheeran mix in some 90s country, R&B and rock and I’m set!
EAW: How did you become interested in music and decided to become a duo?
Adrian: Like we mentioned earlier, both of us have known pretty much our whole lives music was where we belong. Right after high school, I was working on a song for one of my early projects and heard of Butch through a producer we were connected with. I used him for a vocal on that track and shortly after we crossed paths again and the rest as they say is history!!! LOL!
Butch: Right! Long time ago! We actually started out as a more Pop/Rock/HipHop band called EPDMK (Epidemic) along with a 3rd former partner known as Russell Rockwell. Long story short we had a LOT of very big opportunities come our way that were near misses at both stardom and the end of our attempts at furthering our careers in the music industry! We learned some valuable yet hard lessons about just how dirty this game can be and out of all that we decided to fight on and 3 and Twenty was born!
EAW: For someone who hasn’t heard of you before, what would you want them to know about you or about your music when listening to it?
Butch: That we LOVE music! It is rooted in our souls and with every song we write, every note we sing or play, our ultimate purpose is to make people feel what we feel!!!
Adrian: Exactly! Whether it’s a feel good Friday night with friends. A time we messed up and tried to make things right. Or even finding or losing the love of your life, all of these things have happened to us JUST like they happen to everyone else and we use our stories to help our listeners know they have someone to party with or cry with cause we know what they’re feeling!
EAW: Your latest single, Wasted On You, was released on Silverado Records’ The Country Discovery Series. What was it like releasing it?
Both: AMAZING!!! It is an honor being a couple of unsigned country boys from SC to have our song on a Nashville label release!!! We cannot thank Scott and the whole team at Silverado Records enough for giving all of us artists on the Country Discovery Series this platform to be heard! We hope to see more opportunities with Silverado in the future!!! Also a huge shout out to our Co-Writers, Ben Scala and Stephen Gage and Co-Producer, Sean Giovanni for their work on Wasted On You!!!
EAW: Do you plan on releasing new music soon?
Both: Yes Ma’am absolutely!!!
Adrian: We honestly have been writing new music for the last couple years and now that we have the success of Wasted On You, we feel we have a larger audience listening and it is perfect timing to release more music more often!
Butch: Look for a really nice one called Pretty Faces to drop towards end of spring just in time for summer!!!
EAW: What is one thing you would like to accomplish in 2020?
Adrian: As just mentioned, MORE MUSIC!!! As well as better content on our social network in general. More live interaction, photos, and musical content.
Butch: 100% social improvement and getting out on the road more often and seeing a few more places we haven’t yet!!!
This upcoming country duo, 3 and Twenty, has so much potential to have a wonderful career in country music! They are passionate about the music they create and connecting with the fans. If they stay focused on those things, there’s no question they can do amazing things! Thank you so much to Butch and Adrian for chatting with me!
