A upcoming country artist, Abbey Pierce hailing from Fayetteville, Arkansas is really excited to showcase to the world her own style with her music by releasing her brand new album earlier in January entitled, Don’t Call Me Darlin’!
The rising singer songwriter from the natural state, Abbey Pierce recently chatted with The CMBeat about her brand new album, Don’t Call Me Darlin’! Along with that, Abbey Pierce shared how she became interested in music, and as a songwriter, how her songwriting process looks like personally for her. Plus, she talked about the bonus track, Comin’ On Strong, available exclusively on her Vinyl release of the new album!
Emily Ann Wells: When did you become interested in music and wanted to pursue music?
Abbey Pierce: I grew up surrounded by a family where everyone could play an instrument or sing. I was just always part of my childhood – whether we were around the kitchen table, out in my Grandaddy’s shop or at church – there was always music and I joined in before I even remember the first time. But I do remember the first time taking the stage as a performer. I was in the first grade and I sang “RESPECT” by Aretha Franklin. I was rocking a pink leopard number with fringe and sequins. And that’s all she wrote.
Emily Ann Wells: You had a hand in writing most of the songs on the album. Which song from the album is your personal favorite?
Abbey Pierce: I had too much fun writing this record and it shows in how each song is so unique and tells a story all its own. My favorite has to be the title track “Don’t Call Me Darlin'” that I wrote with my friends Eric Spahn and Josh Noren. Eric had the idea to write “You Never Even Called Me by My Name” by David Allan Coe from a female’s point of view, and we dove in and it became a honky tonkin’ girl power anthem – which is naturally my brand. It was just a lot of fun throwing around those ideas and scenarios, and the crowd always gets a kick out of a certain lyric when we play it live.
In February, it was announced Abbey Pierce received TWO nominations for the 2026 Arkansas Country Music Awards! She is a nominee in the Female Vocalist of the Year category, along with the Album of the Year category for her brand new album, Don’t Call Me Darlin’!
Emily Ann Wells: When you’re sitting down to write a song, how does the process look like for you? Which part of the song do you focus on the most?
Abbey Pierce: My process varies depending on who I am writing with, but it’s always about the story and the point you’re trying to get across. When I’m solo, I’m really trying to land the hook and make an emotional impact. When I’m in a co-write I enjoy finding a way to spin an idea and playing with bringing a different meaning to a phrase. When in a co-write it’s a lot of fun to explore topics from different perspectives and experiment with the arrangement, and then there’s that gratifying feeling of finally landing the lyrics and melody together.
Abbey Pierce’s brand new album, Don’t Call Me Darlin’ came to life with the help from Arkansas natives as well, being produced by fellow Arkansan, Jeremy Huddleston with Huddleston Music.
Emily Ann Wells: There’s a beautiful song that’s a bonus track only on your Vinyl release. What made you decide to make that song available only on there and what does the song mean to you?
Abbey Pierce: “Comin’ on Strong” came from a feeling that has been lingering with me for a while of being “in between” chapters of life. I wasn’t planning to cut it for this project. But I had been playing it at shows and having folks ask me when I was releasing that song. So I sent it to my producer, Jeremy Huddleston, and asked him to put it to piano. When I got that back for the first listen it felt like the glue for the whole album. The record needed a track that brings you into the moment just to listen and my hope is that it resonates with the listener as something we all experience which is when a feeling hits us that we can’t quite explain.
Emily Ann Wells: What would you want fans to know about you and this album?
Abbey Pierce: I hope listeners will feel like they are getting to know me through these songs. All the tracks have a sense of carefree, wild, untameable confidence and that is exactly who I’ve always been.
Abbey Pierce is definitely a very talented singer songwriter from the natural state! This album perfectly shows every aspect of her true self. It also showcases how she can capture the message in any song, no matter the story, whether it’s by herself or in a duet with someone else. Most importantly, it’s an album for strong women which we could ALWAYS use more of in country music.
