A rising country music duo, Morrison King recently released their brand new single this summer entitled, Red, White and You! The duo includes members, Neil Morrison and Gentry King!

The California natives, Morrison King recently got to chat exclusively with The CMBeat about the process of making their latest single, Red, White and You. This new song was co-written by both members of Morrison King and tells of a classic love story with all the nostalgic vibes. 

Emily Ann Wells: When you were sitting down to write this song, did you have this story in mind?
Morrison King: Red, White and You is an old-fashioned love story, of a boy born in a small town, who falls in love with the girl next door, he’s shipped off to war as soon as they graduate high school, and finds out they’re having a baby as he’s half a world away, and finally gets to come home to build the American dream together. But more important than just the story itself is the simplicity of what’s needed in life to overcome hardship, to overcome pain and tragedy, and to over come the hard times –  and to truly be happy, is courage/strength, faith, and the love of a true partner. In a world full of such chaos and division, we felt strongly that those three things can bond us all.

Emily Ann Wells: This song tells such a special story, what is your favorite thing about the song?
Morrison King: We wanted this song to take the listener back – to feel the nostalgia of simpler times, to remember summers as a kid, what it felt like before phones and internet, to play, to go outside, to explore, to get into trouble, to remember their first love. For us 90’s kids, this felt like The Sandlot and The Wonder Years and our first cars and meeting up at the mall. We feel our favorite part of the song is tapping into that nostalgia and the hope that it takes people back to a better time too.

Emily Ann Wells: Is there anything fans might not know about the song that they would be surprised to know?
Morrison King: The song was not originally written as a duet, it was coming from the guy’s point of view, and then last minute before recording, we just felt like it would be wonderful for the perspective to shift to the girl’s point of view and as soon as Gentry sang her verse, the story felt way more complete. Also a little easter egg- on the album art, the image we used is of Gentry’s Grandparents. 

There’s no question, Red, White and You by Morrison King is a wonderful song! It’s rare these days to find a classic love song like this one but it’s certainly something special.
